Pond Makeover: Freshen Up with Poposoap and Add Premium Red Goldfish

Pond Makeover: Freshen Up with Poposoap and Add Premium Red Goldfish

Hi, I'm Chris from Stubs Aquatics. This pond behind me is my mom's, and it's in dire need of a makeover. So, we're going to use a brand new Poposoap product to do the job. Stay tuned. Oh, and I forgot to mention that we're also going to be putting some gorgeous Red Goldfish in this pond.

A New Filter System

A New Filter System

Welcome back to Stubs Aquatics. A few years ago, right here, we had a big box filter and waterfall setup. The filter itself was pretty noticeable. Honestly, it was a bit of an eyesore. My mom wanted to completely replace it, and I understand. We just took the leaf net down. It's a little late this year, but you'll see, we're going to get it beautiful again.

My daughter and I had a great time unboxing this Poposoap waterfall box. We're going to use it to do a complete makeover in Mom's pond. Look, this 1200 gallon pump and filter box is going to make a world of difference to this pond. I built this pond a long time ago, and it was definitely in need of an upgrade. I think this unit will do a great job, especially since it comes with a wide variety of filter media. Everything from filter rocks to mesh bags and filter pads. It has a full 10-foot hose and a mesh bag to protect the pump.

Poposoap Waterfall Box Features

Poposoap Waterfall Box Features

This waterfall box comes with a round filter to protect the pump and a mesh bag. It also comes with a few bags of rocks that are zippered for easy cleaning and refilling. There are also filter pads, a metal mesh on the top, and a lot of filter socks, which I have never used before. It also comes with an adapter and all the elbow connectors needed, including silicone gaskets on both sides. The filter socks are easy to install, and then just pull them tight. I'll show you how to pull them tight, perfect.

My suggestion is that even though it comes with a filter pad, you can get an extra one. There's no harm in having an extra one and it doesn't cost much. Then just simply put these in, and this one on top. Then we can put a rock on top of it to hide it more.

I have to tell you, I have had this pump for almost a month in my large pond, and it has been working great. I have only cleaned the filter once, and I have not had any problems. Okay, the filter itself is already embedded behind the padding. It's not completely embedded, but it is hidden a lot. Then we will put a few rocks on top, not too heavy, because you have to be able to access the filter frequently. So we will use some small padding and then put larger rocks on top to hide it. We have already started the unit for the first time, but we are still perfecting it. It is hidden well. Then we have to adjust the pipe and hose a little bit, and may cut a few feet.

Poposoap provides a mesh bag to protect the pump. I recommend putting another foam pad inside, like this, just to enhance the filtration, and then tighten it.

See how it works. It is great, well hidden, and it runs very quietly. It's only been less than a day, and look how clean the water is. That's good filtration at 1200 gallons per hour. I am very impressed with this Poposoap product.

Adding the Red Goldfish

Adding the Red Goldfish

Did I mention earlier that we are going to talk about one of my favorite topics, the Red Goldfish? Now that the pond is equipped with a strong and reliable pump and filter, we can add some beautiful goldfish. Now we get to pick them, which is the best part. We have been looking forward to this all winter, and now it is finally happening. Let our best goldfish go outside.

This is my favorite blue Red Goldfish, it has almost no scales and feels soft to the touch. It looks very beautiful from above, the blue is very pure, and there are some beautiful scale patterns. Yes, it will be a beautiful fish.

This one is also blue and has a great scale pattern. Look at its scales, they feel soft to the touch, the pattern is beautiful, and the shine is very good. It will also be a beautiful fish, looking forward to it growing better.

This one has beautiful fins with even black patterns and a beautiful red head. This fish is lucky, it jumped out and was almost dry, but I took care of it for a few days and gave it medicine, and now it can go into the pond. Not just any pond, but this new Poposoap pond.

The next one going into the pond has a beautiful blue, almost steel-blue color, along with a rich red. It also has great fins and a clean white head. The pattern is very evenly distributed, making it a really good fish.

This one is probably the smallest in the batch that’s going in. It has a beautiful red color with a nice black pattern and a black lip. The white head really makes it stand out. Look at the black on its tail and fins. This one is one of my favorite fish in terms of patterning. It has a white head with black lips and a unique, well-distributed red pattern. There’s also some beautiful blue on its body and really nice fins. Did you notice the beautiful sheen on its skin?

All of these fish going into the pond have beautiful fins and a really nice clean white color. Just look at how crisp the patterns are. They’re all going to be stunning fish. This is the last fish we’re going to put in. It has a very nice, evenly distributed pattern. It’s going to be a really beautiful red mullet.

Let's put these beautiful fish in this new pond. It looks really good. The fish are floating in the bag, waiting to enter this beautiful pond.

Recommendations for Poposoap

Recommendations for Poposoap

There are a few things that I think can be improved, and I would recommend the manufacturer to do so. First, the filter socks work well, but only when you want to remove fine impurities. If your pond is a little dirty, like it was before, it will clog up quickly. So I think only use it when needed. The metal mesh is not bad. I would add one or two more filter pads.Another thing I’d recommend is adding some bristle brushes at the beginning. That way, all the coarse impurities can be collected first. That’s exactly what I would do with this one. After putting in a few bristle brushes, add enough of the bags they provide. The water will flow up between them, which will work much better. After making these few small changes, the water flow rate has not been affected at all. I strongly recommend adding bristle brushes and extra filter pads.

Another suggestion is that the wires would be longer. There's a 10-foot hose, but the cord is only 10 feet long, and it would be nice to have another 3 or 4 feet.

It's so nice to see the fish out there again.

Mom's Perspective

Hi, I'm Stub's 89-year-old mom. This pond has brought me so much joy over the years. But one thing that always bothered me was the big black box that holds the filter. So this year, Stub moved that stuff out and put in this new filter from Poposoap. It's so nice that it doesn't get in the way of my view of the pond, and it really brings me so much joy. I can hear the water flowing, and the birds, and the squirrels, and all that. They all love it here, and it makes me so happy to see all this nature. Chris just put the little fish in a few minutes ago. It's still early in the season, and it's going to take a while for the water lilies and stuff to come out. But this new waterfall, thank you so much, I love it.

Yes. The Poposoap waterfall box is ideal for upgrading older ponds. It replaces bulky box filters and can be partially hidden with rocks and padding, improving both filtration performance and visual appearance.

How often does the waterfall filter need to be cleaned? +

In normal conditions, the filter media only needs occasional cleaning. In this setup, the filter was cleaned once in nearly a month while maintaining clear water at 1200 GPH.

Are filter socks necessary for daily pond operation? +

Filter socks are best used when fine debris removal is needed. In dirtier ponds, they may clog quickly and should be removed once the water clears.
